Sharon Kay Murray

April 21, 1941-August 13, 2025

Sharon Kay Murray, 84, of Dodge Center passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on August 13, 2025, after several years battling with cancer.

Sharon was born on April 21, 1941, to Lloyd and Florence Vavrichek of Dodge Center. She attended and graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1959. She married William (Bill) Lloyd Murray of Claremont, MN in March 1962. The two of them met at the Dodge County fair and had a fairy tale love story. Sharon stayed at home to raise her two daughters, and later in life she worked at the Fairview Nursing Home as an activity coordinator. Together they raised two children: Sharilyn Bjerke (John) and Julie Andrist (Chris).

Sharon loved spending time with her family and friends, doing many of her favorite hobbies.  She loved to camp at Bulrush Bay Resort outside of Faribault, she enjoyed creating crafts of many different kinds, reading, garage sales, jigsaw puzzles, and supporting her husband’s love for fishing. She loved to collect salt & pepper shakers, antiques, coins, baseball cards and of course beanie babies. Sharon was a kind, gentle soul that could light up a room with her smile. She had a gift for leaving a lasting impact. No matter where she was, people fell in love with her.  She spent the last two years at Field Crest Nursing Home in Hayfield, MN.  As she was preparing to leave this world, the nursing home staff shared with us how much they loved her and were going to miss her.  She truly loved the nursing home staff and the friends she made while living there.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Sharilyn (John) and Julie (Chris), four grandchildren: Ryan Bjerke, Jacob (Megg) Bjerke, Michelle (Dustin) Cook and Laura Simon, and nine grandchildren: Hannah, Kovin, Mila, Abbigail, Caleb, Myles, Nora, Cole and Alison.

Sharon is proceeded in death by her husband Bill Murray, parents Lloyd and Florence Vavrichek, sisters Amy Lou Scripture (Howard) and Velda May Awood (Jim) and brothers Robert Vavrichek and Ronald Vavrichek.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday August 20 at the Byron Funeral Home, 1620 Voll Drive NW, Byron MN from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. She will have a private burial at Wildwood Cemetery on August 21.
