Ricky Lee Sweet, 57, of Byron, MN passed away from natural causes on Friday, April 22, 2022.

Rick was born on December 21, 1964, in Rochester, MN to Myron and Joy Sweet. He attended Hayfield High School and graduated from Mayo in 1983. He continued his education in welding at Anoka Technical College.

Rick pursued his career as a union carpenter, self-employed contractor and multiple rental property owner. On December 6, 2020, Rick and Kathy were united in marriage and lived in Byron, MN.

Rick loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, boating, traveling and spending time with his children and family at his cabin in Alma, Wisconsin. Rick’s love for fishing allowed him to travel to Alaska with his wife and children, where he is a proud owner of property.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Brandon (Cassidy), Katie (Tom), Chris (Emily), and Jessup; mother, Joy Sweet; brother, Curt (Kathi) Sweet; grandchildren, Noelle and Alexis; nephews and nieces, Nic (Shannon) Sweet, Wyatt, Piper, and Haven. He is preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Myron Sweet; brother, Bob Sweet and his beloved daughter, Carly Sweet.

The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2022, in the Byron Funeral Home with Rev. Shelley Cunningham officiating. Condolences

The family of Ricky Lee Sweet has received the following condolences.

I am so sorry to hear about Ricks passing.  He did so much work at my home and I’d just texted him the day before he passed to see if he’d come and help me put in a garden.  Of course, as usual he was immediately ready to help.  When I didn’t hear back this week, I began to worry about him because he has always been so reliable and so prompt.  My heart goes out to all of his family and friends.  It was such a pleasure to know Rick.  God bless his soul!

Although we only had the opportunity to be in the presence of Rick on one occasion, we have had the pleasure of working with him over the last few months corresponding and managing his beautiful rental properties on the Kenai Peninsula. Rick was a kind man and we are honored to have known him for the short time we did. His kindness and positive outlook will not be forgotten. We look forward to hosting guests at his cabins this summer and providing them with the experience of Alaska that Rick envisioned for himself at the property. Sending our thoughts and prayers to the family during this time.
