Patricia L. Smith

Patricia L. Smith, 91, of Byron/Rochester died 11/6/2023 at Madonna Meadows, Rochester, MN.

Pat was born August 28, 1932, in Mantorville, MN to Winfield and Emma (Carlier) Moulton.  She graduated from Byron High School in 1950.  On August 19, 1950, she married James R. Smith, and they moved to the family farm in Salem Township where they raised 5 daughters.   They recently celebrated their 73rd anniversary. Jim and Pat moved to Madonna Meadows, Rochester, MN, in 2022.

Pat was a homemaker and even a farmer, as she helped Jim farm for 10 years until he retired.  She loved to bake and baked the best pies, lefse, cinnamon rolls, and bread. She had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years. She canned enough vegetables and fruits from her gardens to feed the family all winter. She loved flowers and planted them in pots and gardens throughout the farm.

Pat was hospitable to everyone, made time to help with church projects, and managed the household with love and kindness.  She was an inspiration to her family and a great woman of faith. Pat and Jim were long-time members of South Zumbro Church in rural Kasson, MN.

She is survived by her husband, Jim, her daughters, Jeanne (Dan) Nadenicek of Athens, GA, Virginia (Mike) Roberts of Waterloo, IA, Cindy (Steve) Plopper of LaCrosse, WI, Marilyn (Bob) Duncan of Knoxville, TN, and Susan (Mike) Hougas of Kasson, MN.; 13 grandchildren; and         31 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, 11:00 am at Byron Funeral Home, Byron, MN with Pastor Pete Wyttenbach officiating.  Visitation will be held 9:30-11:00 am before the service.

Memorials are preferred to So.  Zumbro Lutheran Church, Kasson, MN, or Oxbow Park and Zollman Zoo, Byron, MN.

Condolences

The family of Patricia L. Smith has received the following condolences.

Jim and family, I am so sorry for your loss.  Pat was always such a lovely lady.  I still remember as a young boy stopping at the farm house on Halloween to trick or treat and Jim and Pat not having any candy as they probably hadn’t had trick or treaters in years.  They finally found an apple for me.  Our hearts are with you all.

I’m sorry that our family had such a bout of covid going on but I wanted to send my  condolences and love.  -Ben

Our sincere sympathies on your loss. Praying for comfort as you await the day when you will see her once again, strong and whole in the presence of the Lord.

God bless,

Jane and Brian (Plopper) Greuel
