Norma V. Muenkel

A Christian Funeral Service for Norma Muenkel will be held at 11:00AM Friday, April 20, 2018 at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kasson with the Rev. Dean Gunn officiating.  Visitation will be from 5:00PM – 8:00PM, Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Byron Funeral Home and one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the church on Friday.  Burial will be at Mazeppa Cemetery.

Norma Viola (Thronson) Muenkel, 91, of Kasson (formerly of Mazeppa) was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 16, 2018, with her loving family by her side.

Born to Amiel and Jorand (Hostvet) Thronson on Jan. 27, 1927, in Houston, Minn., Norma was baptized and confirmed at Houston Lutheran Church. She graduated from Houston High School.

On Aug. 16, 1948, Norma married Stanley Carl Muenkel at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Caledonia, Minn. They were married 42 years, until Stanley’s passing on April 20, 1990. To their union, eight children were born:

George (Lonnie) Muenkel of Alpine, Calif.; Frederick (Kathy) Muenkel of Pepin, Wis.; David Muenkel of Pine Island, Minn.; Yvonne (Rev. Steve) Oldre of Chaseburg, Wis.; Daniel (Lisa) Muenkel of Rochester, Minn.; Kathleen (Dan) Dornink of Rochester, Minn.; John (Jodi) Muenkel of Rochester, Minn.; and Carla (Chris) Abel of Kasson, Minn. From her children she became grandmother to 22 and great-grandmother of 24; step grandmother of 7 and step great-grandmother of 9.

Despite losing her mother at a very young age, Norma was blessed with the kindest, most compassionate and gentlest of maternal hearts. Her faith, as well as her love for family, could always be witnessed in the way she lived and loved life. During her working years, she was a teller at Sprauge State Bank in Caledonia and People’s State Bank in Mazeppa, from where she retired.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; her sisters Audrey (James) Engrav, Lylah (Harold) Cruze, Marjorie (Vincent) Poppe and brothers Daniel (Florence) Thronson and infant Donald Thronson as well as grandson, Mark Muenkel.

She will always be remembered for her wonderful meals, baked goods, numerous crafts, gentle touch, warm smile, and selfless servant’s heart.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kasson, Minn.  Blessed is her memory.

Condolences

The family of Norma V. Muenkel has received the following condolences.

I am sad to hear of Norma's passing - Arnie told me yesterday. I still remember seeing you cousins as one of the few families we would visit when coming to Caledonia as kids.

I remember when I first met grandma Norma and I can still see her smile. She welcomed me , an implant to the area all the way from Washington DC, with loving and friendly arms. We would see each other in church and there after go to brunch on Sundays. Afterward, she and I would sit and just chat for hours. We talked about books and family and just everything. Her heart was grand and great and even though I moved from the area to PA, I always longed to see her smile again. To the family, I send light and love to you all. I was very blessed to have met grandma Norma. Many blessings -Latoya from PA

I'm so sorry to hear about Norma.  She was always so smiley and fun to see when I would go and see Grandma Marjorie and I just adored all of her sisters.  Such a special bond between all of them...I am sad to see them all gone now.  Sending love and blessings to you all and my deepest condolences for all the Muenkel kids and grandkids.  She will be missed by many!

I had the privilege of knowing Norma through her children and grandchildren.  She was a jewel...a loving woman with a faith in God that was inspiring.  She is embraced by her Heavenly Father for eternity.  Thank you God for the promise of eternal life in your presence.  My sympathies to the family.
