Lewis Vane Newman

Lewis Newman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and musician, passed away on April 4, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on May 29, 1945, to Mabel Curler and Charles F. Newman, Lewis was raised in Fall Creek, WI.

After graduating from Fall Creek High School in 1963, Lewis embarked on a journey of service, joining the United States Air Force, and being stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base. It was during his time there that he met the love of his life, Sharon Dee Sanden. They married on February 23, 1968.

Lewis was not only a dedicated serviceman but also a talented musician. Throughout his life, he graced numerous country western bands with his musical talent, from the Cimarron Cowboys to Rawhide. His love for music brought joy to many and left an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure of listening to him play.

After retirement in May of 2003, Lewis and Sharon settled in Byron, where they cherished being near their daughter, Melissa, and granddaughter, Ashley. Lewis found immense joy in riding his Harley and spending time with his family.

Lewis is survived by his daughter, Melissa A. (Jeff) Morris, granddaughter Ashley Catlin, and great-granddaughter Sara Nelson. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon, his parents, Mabel and Charles, and his two brothers. He leaves behind a legacy of love, and music that will be forever cherished by his family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Rural Byron, with military honors.

Condolences

The family of Lewis Vane Newman has received the following condolences.

So sorry to hear about Lou. I've known Lou since 1975. The first band I ever played in was with him. He was a seasoned veteran musician &I learned a lot from him. I always felt very lucky that he thought I was good enough to be in a band with him! I lost contact with him but reconnected back in the 1990's when we both lived in Colorado. I was able to see Lou & Sharron a few times before they moved back to Minnesota. We stayed in contact for years talking on the phone, mostly about music & pedal steel guitar. We'd always end up talking for 45 minutes  to an hour! He was just such a good guy & I'll miss him dearly! R.I.P. Lou.  Jim & LouAnn Lundholm
