Jim Caulfield, 95, of Byron, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 1, 2017 at Samaritan Bethany in Rochester.
The funeral service for Jim Caulfield will be at 11:00am, Saturday August 5, 2017 at Byron United Methodist Church with Reverend Beth Perez officiating. Visitation will be 4pm-7pm Friday, August 4, at Byron Funeral Home, 1620 Voll Drive NW, Byron, and one hour prior to the service at 10:00am on Saturday. Burial will be at the Byron Cemetery.
Jim was born May 10, 1922 in Byron, MN to Harold and Viola (Weber) Caulfield. Jim graduated from Byron High School in 1940. On October 14, 1943, he married Eileen Keefe. They made their home on the Caulfield dairy farm north of Byron, which is a 4th generation farm that has been in the family for over a hundred years.
He was active in many farm related associations. He was past president of the Olmsted County DHIA, member of the Rochester Dairy Board (1952-1986), and belonged to the MN Holstein Association. He received the award for the Highest Corn Yield and was honored as the Byron FFA Farmer of the Year. Family was a very important part of his life. He was a great role-model, instilled a strong work ethic, and valued the importance of family traditions.
Jim and Eileen enjoyed an active social life; traveling, attending various musical events, weekly outings with friends, playing cards, and making time to visit community friends and family. They were always supportive of Byron sports and education, and were honored to be inducted into the Byron Hall of Fame this past fall.
Jim is survived by 5 children; Wayne (Cheryl) Caulfield of Tucson, AZ, Carol (Walt) Hirschey of Hastings, MN, Diane (Bob) Eustice of Byron, MN, Don of San Diego, CA, Deb (Jan) Hanson of Rochester, MN; son-in-law Gene Goepferd of Maple Grove, MN; 18 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eileen in 2017; daughter, Shari Goepferd in 2016; granddaughter, Kristin Hirschey in 1978; siblings; Helen, Jack, and Keith.
Memorials are suggested to the Jim Caulfield Family to be used for a bench in memory of Jim and Eileen at Oxbow Park.
Condolences
The family of James Edward Caulfield has received the following condolences.
Diane and the Caulfield families,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Your dad was truly a mentor, leader, and an inspiration not only to family but to the community and all generations and future generations. My prayers are with you during this time.
My deepest of sympathies go out to the Caulfield Family. I never got the chance to meet Jim or his wife Eileen; however, I have been given the chance to know them through their family, the stories that I've been told & the recipes I've tasted. I've also gotten to know Jim & Eileen through the photographs of them that I've spent time with. Keep sharing their stories & photos so they can live on in our memories.
I have known Jim since I was very young. My dad's farm and the Caulfield Farm were only a few miles apart. I used to meet up with Jim quite often while running after parts at local shops. I always enjoyed talking to him as he was very good at what he did for a living. Later on in life, my wife Erleen and I bought a house in Byron that happened to be directly behind Jim and Eileen's house. We got to know both of them very well and really appreciated having them as such great neighbors. It was just nice to know they were there and we always felt like they could watch over our property when we were gone. We will really miss both of them but is so nice to feel assured that they are back together now as they were here on this earth. Rest in peace Jim.
Uncle Jim needed to be with Aunt Eileen. May they both rest in peace. Love and Prayers, Marilyn Baker
David and I send our deepest condolence to the entire Caulfield family. Mr. Jim was a wonderful person and we have fond memories of his visits to San Diego with Eileen, especially during Super Bowl parties at our home. We got to know the Caulfield family through stories that Jim and Eileen and Don shared with us. We will always treasure Jim's gentle, kind, and thoughtful ways. All these qualities live on with through the children and grandchildren, and for us through our dearest friend Don.
Love and prayers,
Edith and David
