Michael P. Coe

 

Michael P. Coe, 72, of Rochester, formerly of Byron, MN, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at Samaritan Bethany in Rochester.

Michael was born on January 4, 1952, in Rochester, MN, to George and Alvina (Raygor) Coe. He was a 1970 graduate of Byron High School, where he played baseball and developed a love for sports that would last a lifetime. He continued his education  and playing baseball at Rochester Community College before earning a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Winona State University. 

On February 7, 1975, Michael married Jane Castner, and the couple shared a life filled with love and adventure. They lived in several Minnesota cities, including Winona, Willmar, Burnsville, and St. Cloud, before finally calling Byron home.

Michael enjoyed a long and successful career in the automotive industry, starting as a car cleaner and working his way up to sales and, ultimately, finance manager at various dealerships. His dedication and strong work ethic made him a respected figure in the industry. He was known for his honesty, integrity, and loyalty—qualities that defined his approach to both his career and personal life.

A passionate sports fan, Michael was an avid supporter of the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, and Gophers. He loved engaging in sports trivia and spending time on the golf course. Above all, he cherished the opportunity to attend his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and musical performances, taking immense pride in their achievements.

Michael’s life changed in 2016 when he suffered a stroke, leading him to reside at Samaritan Bethany for the past 8 years. Despite the challenges, his strong will, generosity, and determination remained evident to all who knew him. He will be remembered for his caring nature, warm personality, and the unwavering love he had for his family and friends.

Michael is survived by his wife, Jane; children,  Kara (Sean) Weiland of Duluth, Kevin (Lena) of St. Peter, Kyle of Spokane Valley, WA, Kristopher (Deanna) of Strum, WI, Kassandra (Nicholas) Niemi of Winona, Kellan of Byron and Kameron (Paulina) of Byron;  grandchildren, Moira (Sam Gelhorn) Weiland, Elora and Mannix Weiland, Anthony, Sarah, Mallory and Clayton Coe, Nathaniel and Benjamin Niemi, and Luka and Lana Coe. Michael is also survived by his siblings, Pam (Tim) Doyle, Tim (Darla) Pretzer, Cindy Wolfe, Sandy (Brian) Norton, Jackie (John) Parsons, Jennifer Coe-Lutz and sisters-in-law, Sue (Tony) Cairins, Jill Marquardt and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George (Carol) Coe and Alvina (Myron) Pretzer. 

The family wishes to thank Samaritan Bethany, especially City View 6 for the compassion and care they showed Michael all these years. 

Per Michael’s wishes, there will not be any services, A private family burial will take place at a later date.
