Kathleen “Kathy” Nancy Popp

The funeral for Kathy Popp will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 30th at Christ the King Catholic Church in Byron, MN with a lunch to follow. Officiant will be Rev. Paul Surprenant.  Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea after lunch.  Visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M. on Thursday, June 29th at Byron Funeral Home, 1620 Voll Drive NW Byron, MN and one half-hour prior to the funeral service.

Kathy, 77, of Rochester, formerly of Byron, died June 26, 2017 peacefully with family by her side.  Kathy was born on March 5, 1940 in Spring Valley, MN to Chester C. Jahns and Dorothy H. (Bertalot) Jahns.

She graduated from Albert Lea Senior High School in 1958. Kathy graduated from Methodist Kahler School of Nursing, class of 1961.  She married Clarion Louis Popp, August 4, 1962 at St. Pius Church in Rochester, MN. The couple moved a few times while Clarion was in the Navy and then settled near Byron where they raised their four children. In 1984, they moved near Tucson, AZ and then moved back to Byron in 1989 where they resided until retirement.

Kathy proudly worked as a RN in MN and AZ over her career but mostly she loved being a mom, raising her four children, and being around her family.  She was a kind and generous woman who enjoyed helping others. She enjoyed canning, sewing, baking, and genealogy.  Kathy was devoted to her Christian faith and was an inspiration to all. She had a green thumb with her houseplants and vegetable garden.  Kathy will be greatly missed by family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Clarion, brother: Dan Jahns, father: Chester C. Jahns, paternal grandparents: Christopher and Ida (Stellmaker) Jahns, maternal grandparents: Earl and Doris (McMorran) Bertalot.

Survivors include her mother: Dorothy (Bertalot) Jahns of Albert Lea, her two daughters, Karen Popp of Dodge Center, MN and Brenda (Alan) Nelson of Oronoco, MN granddaughters: Sarah and Rachael Ramirez. A son: David (LeAnn) Popp of San Jose, CA. grandchildren: Kenny, Katie, Kelly and Kevin Popp, a son Jeff (Mauri) Popp of Castle Rock, CO. grandsons: Jamie and Nathan Popp, a sister Marlene (Jahns) Nelson, two brothers Tom (Elaine) Jahns of Battle Creek, MI and Rick (Dodi) Jahns of Gilbert, AZ.

Condolences

The family of Kathleen “Kathy” Nancy Popp has received the following condolences.

To Mrs.Jahns and Kathy's family.  I was a classmate of Kathy's and so sorry to hear of her passing.  My sincere condolences to you.  I remember her well and she was a friend of mine.  A new star is lighting the Heavens now.  May she rest in eternal peace, and may our Lord give you all strength to get you through this difficult time.

Sharon (Hubbell) Noble, ALHS Class of 1958

So sorry to hear of your loss.  We enjoyed our visits with Kathy at the annual reunion in Stewartville.  You are in our thoughts and prayers.  In Christ's Love, Alvin & Donna @ Family

We feel the pain of all of the deaths in our family.  To those of you that are still living we wish you peace.  It is hard to lose a sister, cry laugh or feel whatever.  It is appropriate to mourn the way you want.  God bless you and keep you strong as you take this journey.  Once upon a time we knew the whole clan and someday we will meet again.  Kathy has so many loved ones we can almost see her hugging everyone, especially Clarion.

Rick and Dodi Jahns

I was so happy that I got to see Kathy a few years ago not long after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer. She was making list knowing hat she wouldn't be able to remember much as time went on.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have lost a brother and know how hard it is.
